The Top 100?

This is probably old news for some of you but since I strive to keep you informed I must carry on. Some of you are way ahead of me here but for the sake of those uninformed here is the big news. Angelina Jolie was named the top most beautiful woman in the world by People magazine.

Let me assure you that one look at Angelina and she is indeed a beautiful person. For the sake of good journalism I took a look at some of the top beautiful people and indeed without question as far as beauty goes these people are beautiful. As a matter of fact I am not sure how you could tell one from the other in the area of looks.

The question must be asked how can you come up with such a list and what is the criteria to make it? Does there hair have to look a certain way, does their smile have to be picture perfect, are their any intangibles that can separate one beauty from another?

Then I would like to know what makes someone an expert at who is the greatest beauty. Do they use former winners as judges, do they simply use staff at People magazine, I mean who is qualified enough to make such an important and subjective decision?

Okay enough of the questions let me tell you what I think. I rarely read People magazine and I have a strong feeling that what their definition of beauty is and mine are completely different. Since neither my wife nor any of my children made the cut I think the system is somewhat flawed.

The way I see it the only person qualified to determine beauty is the one who did the creating, that would narrow it down to God. So let’s take a look at his qualifications:

1 Peter 3:3&4, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

As I read it according to God it is not the outside that makes you beautiful but the inside. Let’s face it some of us have no chance of ever getting on anyone’s top 100 list if we use the worlds standards of judging beauty. But if we use God’s standard then the playing field becomes level for all of us.

We can all be beautiful on the inside and probably would be if we took as much time and effort on the inside as we put into the outside. How much time is spent on grooming for example; haircuts, make up, clothes, and manicures to name just a few. I am not saying we should not seek to look our best, no not at all. I am just suggesting we spend some time, as much time probably more on the inside as we do on the outside.

What kind of beauty are you cultivating in your life? One that is based on the outside appearance the world appreciates and in some cases worships or the kind God desires and blesses.

Remember a few things:

  1. God created you, for Him you are in the top 100, as a matter of fact your number 1.
  2. What eventually shows up on the outside is a reflection of the inner beauty. For example you attitude, your humbleness, your purity, and your speech reveal the heart.
  3. Be careful how you judge beauty yourself. Outer beauty fades with age but inner beauty only grows more beautiful. Remember that when you choose a companion especially a life long companion like a mate.
