God’s List

These lists tell you a lot about the person who makes them up. So just for fun let’s look at some Richard list. How about my top three favorite food list:
- Anything Tex-Mex and it must have great hot sauce to go with it.
- Chinese food, I have no idea what I am eating but I like it anyway.
- Hamburgers, especially grilled outside in my backyard.
Or maybe how about my top three Bible Characters outside of Jesus:
- David, a flawed man, honest with God and had a heart for God.
- Peter, another flawed man, but was zealous for God and overcame.
- Elijah, I wild dresser, who with God’s help preformed some wonderful miracles.
Okay, here is the last one, my list of favorite little people in the Bible:
- The Samaritan woman at the well, lost and lonely found God and started a revival in her city.
- Lazarus, Jesus brought him back from the dead, what a story he could tell.
- Father of the Prodigal son, he had great love, kept looking for his son to return and threw a big party when he did.
Now there are my lists and what might you know from them? Well you would know I am a Tex-Mex loving guy who enjoys reading about flawed people who overcome obstacles and kept on loving God.
But what about God’s list does he have any? Well yes he does, let’s take a look. Proverbs 6:16-19 gives a list of things God hates. “There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.”
So what does this tell us about God? It tells he hates prideful people who are quick to do evil things and stir up trouble. Now that is my paraphrase, yours might be different but I assure of this we would do well to stay away from the things that God has on his list.
For an exercise let’s break the list down and see where we stand:
- Are you prideful?
- Do you tell the truth at all times?
- Do you hurt the innocent?
- Are you always scheming about how to get the next guy?
- Are you quick to fall into sin?
- Do you tell the truth when under oath?
7) Are you a troublemaker?
Now think about the above list, don’t just assume you have it all together. What real believer would want to find themselves on a list of doing even one thing that God hates? Its called sin, God hates it we need to avoid it.
Now there are other lists that God has, check out the Ten Commandments for one popular example. Some list you want to be on and some you don’t but the list of the names of people in the Lamps book of life is a list we all wish to be on. Those people will find themselves in heaven with the living God. (see scripture below)
Scripture: Revelation 21:27, “Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”
Prayer: Lord, help us to hate what you hate. Help us to repent from our sinful ways. Father in Heaven we thank you that you sent your son to die for our sins that our names might be written in the Lamb’s book of life. Helped us to live changed and grateful lives because of that sacrifice. In Christ Name, Amen.
