Simple Truths

How about this one? Have you tried to keep up with the life of Brittany Spears in the tabloids? One day she has her kids, the next day she doesn’t. One day she is in rehab the next night she is out on the town. One day she likes this guy, the next day another, one minute she has hair and the next moment she doesn’t. It is a never ending circle of self destruction. I am sure not all of what is written is the truth, trying to keep up with the truth is complicated enough. Honestly I give it little effort.
You want complication; think about this one a minute. Try to figure out your health insurance. First you have to digest how much your premiums are. Then you have to put the numbers to how much the deductible is for you after which you must compute the rest of what your family owes. Then you have to somehow understand when the insurance company will pay eighty percent, when they will pay ninety percent and when they will pay nothing at all. All I can say is good luck.
Life is complicated and often it is that way of our own making. The world runs at a break neck speed and we for some strange reason try to keep up with the pace. With all of our inventions and conveniences the world keeps getting more complicated instead of simpler.
Yes we need a simpler life don’t we. Let’s take a moment, sit out by the pond, watch the sun come up, drop a pole in the water and listen to the sweet tunes on the radio. While you’re at it, let’s grab an ice cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade. Ah yes the simple life, but a tad bit unrealistic.
Perhaps your looking for a little something more within your grasp, me too and I know just where to go. Let’s take a nice leisurely stroll through the pages of the Bible, a book overcomplicated by man, not God. Let’s sit back and drink up the simple truths that come our way in the Bible, I think these times are screaming for it:
- God loves you. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
- You are given salvation by God’s grace. Ephesians 2:8, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Grace nothing more nothing less.
- God cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”
- God gives rest. Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
If you want complication in your life you need not look far for it, just pick up the phone, turn on the TV or jump in the car. For simplicity, turn to a God who pure and simply loves you. How simple is that!
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to turn to you during these days that we walk. Help us to slow down and look for comfort where it is offered, in your loving arms. Help us to find rest in our relationship with you. We ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ our blessed Savior, Amen.
