Yvette- Putting Gods Wheels in Motion

We had many nurses during our one month stay and we came to love almost each and every one of them. There were a few though that were extra special in our eyes and Yvette was one of them. Yvette was a fun loving, dedicated nurse who loved Christ and our Gracie. She met us early in our stay and played a special part of what has been an extra special year.
Yvette could read our emotions well and when we were dissatisfied, confused or upset with the events of the day she would take the time to explain things to us or get someone who could. She took us under her wing of experience and walked us through some difficult days. To put it best she became our advocate and it was in this roll that I can look back now and see how Yvette put the wheels of God in motion.
At first we were not pleased with one doctor’s bedside manner or with his seemingly lack of concern for Gracie. Yvette picked up on this and before we knew it she had Gracie moved over to another team of doctors she thought would be the best fit for us. She was right on the money. From there the ball has just never really stopped rolling.
Because she made that move for us, we ended up with a different cardiologist. A cardiologist that communicated well and showed a real concern for the patient as well as the parent, we have just fallen in love with her. This cardiologist is the doctor that found the problems with Gracie’s heart that eventually led to her heart surgery. She took us in her office explained things to us and then the next day took the issue to several other doctors that suggested the surgery. Our trust for her made the decision for surgery an easy one, though not one we really wanted to make.
We did not meet the surgeon that would do Gracie’s surgery until the day it occurred. We had talked to him on the phone once and met his nurse but had not seen him personally. Knowing nothing about heart surgery or heart surgeons we had to trust our cardiologist recommendation. He turned out to be a very gifted surgeon who repaired Gracie’s heart and knew the right procedures when she struggled a bit in the operating room. He no doubt was the right man for the job.
There was no coincidence that Yvette was a nurse on the second night we were there. It was no coincidence that she suggested our new doctors, there was no coincidence that our doctor suggested our cardiologist and there was no coincidence that our cardiologist recommended our surgeon. Gods hand was in it all.
It took one floor nurse to put God’s wheels in motion. One Christian lady who loved Him and cared for people, one person willing to take a stand for one scared and confused couple. What the world needs more of is less theologians and more Yvette’s.
Where are you at as you read this? Is there a co-worker who needs a helping hand or one friend who needs a listening ear? Is there a young mother at the grocery store that needs a smile and a word of encouragement? God is the god of details and little things, you never know how even the slightest decision or encouraging word or action will effect someone’s life.
What a great privilege we have to be a catalyst for God. Today Gracie is a healthy and happy eight months old and I owe much of that to Yvette who cared enough about a family and a baby girl to put God’s wheels in motion.
What will you do today to put God’s wheels in motion?
Scripture: John 13: 34-35, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that your are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Prayer: Dear Lord, teach us to be mindful of our actions and their effects on the lives of others. We thank you that you see fit to use us. Remind us each day how your hand is in on all the activities of our lives. In Christ Name, Amen.
